Song of the Day: Evidence - It Wasn’t Me…
Like beer and Freeway, Mr. Slow Flow is a bit of an acquired musical taste [ll], but his first solo album (2007’s ‘The Weatherman’) put paid to any reservations I had about supporting his solo career. This is kind of a big deal for me, since I’m a card-carrying racist that hates all white rappers.
His newest effort, ‘Cats & Dogs’ is out today and it’s easily one of the best things I’ve heard this year (that includes my lady’s sex sounds too). He isn’t reinventing the wheel or anything like that, but I highly recommend it (‘The Red Carpet’ featuring Raekwon and Rass Kass and production from The Alchemist is a highlight).
It just occured to me that if I subtract some of the names and virulent bigotry in the prior paragraphs, I can use this exact template to write about another album that drops today, Phonte’s ‘Charity Begins At Home’. Tigallo leans a little too heavily on the style of production he’s used since day one (as a part of Little Brother - read 9th Wonder’s snares and hi-hats), but it’s still an excellent project.
But alas, I will do no such thing and leave this piece as is. You’ll have to find out about Phonte some other way. You can’t trick a trick… ster…
