Song of the Day: Random Axe - Chewbacca feat. Roc Marciano…
Another video off one of this year’s best albums. The album so gully that it broke my old iPod. Even better, the video is funny in an ever so corny way. I hope they paid the guy in the Chewbacca suit a lot of money - it looked hot out there.
But back to this album being one of 2011’s best. No shots at Random Axe (because the album is truly quality even when judged in a vacuum), but there’s been a paucity of competition for what one would consider album of the year on a purely artistic standpoint - I don’t think the bars on ‘Watch The Throne’ are up to snuff, no one paid any attention to Joell Ortiz’s ‘Free Agent’ or Killer Mike’s ‘PL3DGE‘ and J.Cole’s shit hasn’t been out for long enough. I don’t mean to declare these three the main contenders (they’re not), but nothing off the top comes to mind at the moment. Last year, I was pretty sure that Roc Marciano’s ‘Marcberg’ would hold up for me throughout the year and it did. ‘Random Axe’ doesn’t quite hit me the same way, but we’ll see in a few months.
But I ain’t trippin yet. Nas (#Gawd), Gibbs (not a retail effort, but whatever), Rawse (#fraud, but astute musician) and Jeezy (maybe...) are dropping this year. Plus, I’m still spending time with Evidence and Phonte’s latest efforts.
