Song of the Day: Game - My Bitch…
I’m not going to recount all the melodrama that surrounded the release of Game’s sophomore set (well maybe briefly - in a nutshell: silly beef, G-Unot, Dre is on the album, no he isn’t, Dre is making beats, no he’s not), but you’d be crazy to disagree with the suggestion that Game made the best music of his career in that era.
The Documentary was pretty excellent work, but for my money I’d say Doctor’s Advocate is the superior set (and since we’re 5 years away from the latter, I’ll grant you permission to label both classics). Why? Well, for one it sounds much more like a West Coast/LA album than The Documentary (that’s important to people like me - nerds) - which was essentially perfectly executed focus group/mercenary gangsta rap. More importantly, Game proved that he could make good music all by himself, after the production (maaaan, dem beats!) and 50 Cent claimed a good chunk of the plaudits on his successful debut.
All that being said, what was even more impressive about Game circa Doctor’s Advocate were the tracks that didn’t make the album. I can’t remember where I got the collection from, but a bunch of lost tracks surfaced at around the same time the album was released and ALL those tracks were arguably just as good (and in some cases better) than the tracks on the album. They were certainly less dramatic - with the exception of the track above. ‘My Bitch’ is basically one long subliminal metaphor shitting on 50 Cent, Jay-Z and Suge Knight. Maybe that’s why that shit didn’t make the album - but shouts to Ivan or someone in his neighborhood for leaking it anyway. In addition to being unrelentingly brutal, ‘My Bitch’ is also pretty hilarious - par for the course with Game if you can get past being annoyed by hysterics.
Here’s the “track list” for the lost tracks from that period. A mini-EP if you will:
- Wonderful Life (a contender for best Game song ever)
- Won’t Stop
- Feels Good
- My Bitch
- Around the Way
- Murda (“bloods kill bloods & crips kill crips, so esses just chill, they ain’t gotta do shit” - WHOA! Another contender here)
I suspect that the main reason why these songs never saw an official release is that they were produced by Dr. Dre or someone in his camp. Some of the songs definitely have some tell-tale signs of Dre production and Game references Dre making the beat on at least one of the tracks. However, it’s a huge credit to Game that none of these tracks made the album and he still managed to make a critical and commercial hit. Good shit.
I guess all his antics in the intervening years haven’t totally soured my Game stan card. It’s all about the music y’all. Well, most of the time (yeah, shots fired)…
P.S. - If you can’t find the tracks/EP on your own, I got you: you’re welcome. I haven’t checked the file, but if tracks are missing, let me know in the comments and I’ll consider uploading my copy.

Finally someone who appreciates The Game’s music as much as I do. People got so caught up in the name dropping that they really missed out on enjoying the music. I agree with just about everything you said.
