Gucci Mane - The Appeal (Review… or is it?)
To prevent me from writing as many snarky things as possible within a 5 minute period (and trust me, I’m more than capable of spewing tons of awful on any subject within that time limit), I’m going to do this bullet-points style. ”Mobb-Ku” if you will:
1. I don’t listen to Gucci Mane beyond whenever his shit comes on at the club (which I haven’t been to in a looooooooong minute) or when an album or mixtape drops.
2. To be honest, I don’t listen to the mixtapes anymore. There’s too many of em.
3. If you can get past the accent and understand what Mr. Mane is mumbling, he actually drops the occasional gem. No lie.
4. More money isn’t always a good thing. I feel bad for the label that got suckered into paying for this shit.
5. That said, Gucci gets credit for taking advantage of a budget to try new things.
6. Unfortunately for the listeners, Gucci has decided to take another shot at making a T.I. album.
7. I just noticed that he isn’t pretending to be Big Meech or Larry Hoover. That’s a plus.
8. Gucci needs to delete Wyclef’s number from his phone.
9. Same with Pharrell’s. And Estelle’s. Good rule of thumb for Gucci: if the artist/producer has more than one ‘L’ in his/her name, don’t work with ‘em. There. The sad part is that I actually like Pharrell and Estelle. But I’m not Mr. Mane.
10. This may sound drastic, but Gucci should exercise his already experienced trigger finger on Swizz Beatz.
11. Actually, let me take that back. Alicia Keys is pregnant with Swizzy’s next rugrat, so that would be tragic. Maybe later.
12. I didn’t think it was possible for me to be disappointed in a Gucci Mane album, but it just happened.
13. ’The Appeal’ is like ‘The State Vs. Radric Davis’ minus the hits/bangers (Wasted, Lemonade, Heavy) and that’s unfortunate, since that kinda sucked too.
14. Oh and Ray J oughta catch some shrapnel too. But my imagination betrays me at the moment.
15. I think I know why Gucci fashions himself as “Georgia’s Most Wanted”. But I’ll let you tell it.
