Underrated and Ignored Vol. 2 - R&B Edition
Sista - 4 All The Sistas Around The World (1994).

I don’t have the same amount of information to offer as I did the last time that I did this (look for the post on O.C.’s ‘Jewelz’), since I don’t listen to nearly as much R&B as Rap. That being said, this album is pretty amazing. Unfortunately, it was a little before its time in 1994. People weren’t quite prepared for Timbaland and Co. back then. If only they knew…
Sista was a group out of Virginia Beach, discovered by DeVante swing of Jodeci around the same time that he found Timbaland. There were 4 ladies in the group, but the only one you care about today is Missy Misdemeanor Eliot. It was pretty obvious that she was going to be the break out star of the group and the production by Timbaland and DeVante hints at the epic insanity we heard out of that camp in the latter part of the 90s. The album is basically a showcase for Missy’s singing, the occasional silly verse and the production. AND one of the tracks has some pretty awesome guests, but I’ll let you discover that on your own. The single from the album is in the video above, but it’s far from the best or most innovative shit on the album. Maybe that’s why the shit flopped.
I can’t recommend this enough. Google is your friend…
