The 11s: (9) Predictions, Hopes, Random Shit…
- That I’ll actually finish this series. I’m running on fumes here. You’re reading the Mariana Trench level dregs of my mind right now.
- There’ll be a solid renaissance of sorts with regards to New York rap. The proliferation of a bunch of talented (and slightly weird) rappers from NY with varying sounds and styles, along with highly anticipated projects from some vets and legends (we’re due a Nas project, same with Jay-Z and Roc Marci) will shift a little attention back to NY. However, this isn’t to say that NY will be “back.”
- Nothing will change on radio though. It’s going to be YMCMB all the time (yeah, I’m taking a huge reach with this one). Cory Gunz will continue being light skinned and not “it.” Sucks for him.
- Rick Rawse’s album will be a critical disappointment (relative to his last two albums), but will do his best numbers to date anyway. That’s how the hype cycle works.
- We’ll hear a lot more from The Alchemist and Pete Rock. I just get the sense that those guys are about to go in on several fronts.
- Meek Mill, in spite of that annoying voice, will make a really good album - but probably won’t meet commercial expectations.
- Someone on Jeezy’s CTE imprint will have a mainstream/breakout year. I don’t know who. Y’all know who I want it to be though. Get ready for the return of some gangsta shit.
- Speaking of returns, we’ll finally get some new Andre 3000 music. Either via an Outkast project or a solo album that contains a good amount of rap. You read it here first. On the other hand, Dr. Dre won’t do shit. Again. Sigh.
- If Kendrick Lamar drops a full length retail project, it’ll do decent numbers and it’ll be even better than Section 80. Freddie Gibbs will drop more than one project - they’ll all be good and one might eventually become an addition to the gangsta rap canon.
Soulja Boy will continue being a coon. Future will become a legitimate star. I’ll understand, but I won’t like it much. 2Slaves will plateau after continuing his series of features and signing some deal somewhere. I’ll be sad.- President Obama will get re-elected. Someone will make a rap song about it. None of us will care. DMX will also stay outta jail. How those are connected, I dunno.
- Here’s one more to replace the two up there that are complete bullshit (guess which ones, send the answer to my ask box - if you’re right, I either have to write about a topic of your choice or buy you alcohol in 2012): a female rapper with the letters “A” and “Z” in her name will become pretty popular. Not quite Nicki levels, but we’ll have another option.
How am I going to finish this shit? Help me!!!
