Song Of The Day: Heatwave - Star of the Story…
I think we can all agree that Q-Tip is responsible for a lot of really good music. Period. So I suppose it’s no surprise that the man’s musical tastes/influences are impressive as well. Those of you in the know already realize that the Tipster sampled this Heatwave track on ‘Vibes from the Abstract’ off ‘The Low End Theory’ (Thanks liner notes, Wikipedia or Ivan - I can’t remember where I learned this shit first - I’m getting old) and I just got around to listening to the Heatwave album that houses this track (Central Heating).
Honestly, I don’t have anything special to say about the song. Or more accurately, I’m not going to write anything that you can’t learn elsewhere with a click or two. However, I have to admit that this song is some timeless shit. It kinda reminds me of Norman Connors’ ‘You Are My Starship’ - not because both songs have the word ‘star’ in their titles (well, maybe a little), but because they both move along at similar paces and have an ethereal/spacey vibe. Plus, they were both sampled by some of the best rap producers ever (Havoc sampled the latter on ‘Trife Life’ and Q-Tip assisted on ‘The Infamous’).
Unlike most of the morally reprehensible shit I listen to, this Heatwave song almost makes me want to be a better person. I shit you not. It’s weird - I know, but there’s just something about the production, arrangements and vocal performances (definitely not the lyrics - this wasn’t Rod Temperton’s finest writing, in my arrogant opinion) that makes a nigga wanna go back to church. Or settle down with a clean woman to make fuck with forever. Then the song ends and I click on my xvideos.com bookmark. *Shrug*
I think I’ve rambled enough. Time to figure out what’s for dinner. Clean women that want to make fuck may inquire within…
