Just kidding. CNN is barely an authority of note on news these days, so their opinions on rap mean nothing to me. I’mma still read the shit though.

I haven’t read the article yet, but I’m a sucker for anything that’s complimentary towards my favorite rappers. I think I’m like everyone else in that regard.

Off to read that shit now. Packers got that other shit covered.

Shouts to the homie B-Freck for the find…

Did it ever occur to you that I didn’t really say much about Nas’ latest album around these parts?

Yeah. That happened (or didn’t - depending on whether you’re a glass half-empty or half-full kinda person) and I just kinda ignored it - in a bloggerly sense only. Life Is Good has been in rotation since the day it hit the internet (of course I bought the shit - what kinda dumbass question was that?)

Anyway, I finally found a halfway decent gimmick that would enable me to write about the album without actually reviewing it. That said, I love that shit. Very much so.

Click on the link to read what I did. I’m kinda excited about this one…

Making Of "Hip Hop" from Dazed One on Vimeo.

The Making of DJ Khaled’s “Hip-Hop” feat. Nas, Scarface & DJ Premier (produced by Justice League)…

I’ll keep it brief.

The highlight of this shit is Facemob’s hilarious reaction upon hearing Nas’ verse for the first time. It’s evident that he’s still a HUGE  fan of the game. Heartwarming shit.

Oh shit, was that Usain Bo… I’m chillin…

…and I suppose DJ Khaled is essentially a Diddy-type in the studio. No actual chops on display (I think he used to produce under the moniker “Beat Novacaine” but I haven’t seen that credit in ages), but plenty of “vision” or whatever you wanna call it…

For the latest installment in Slate’s “Where Do I Start With?” series, John Swansburg chose to write about the Gawd Nasir.

It’s pretty interesting (and informative for novices) shit…

(Via RapGenius.Com)

I gotta say, this shit looks promising as fuck - from the guest appearances (Large Pro? Amy? Nice!), to the production (I’m especially excited to see 40 on a track, I’ve always thought that Nas was really well suited to the pensive sounding shit Drake rhymes on & similar sentiments apply to Buckwild - what took so damn long?)

That said, I was expecting 2 contributions from Swizz based on the reports from the listening session - “Summer on Smash” (present) and some other ridiculous banger that everyone on twitter kept going on about that night. Someone needs to fanute that info ASAP.

Can’t wait!

Scrolling through Complex’s slideshows can get tedious at times, but it’s worth it this time.

There’s a ton of overlap between his list and what I imagine mine would be.

Also, he threw that Jay-Z shit in there on some political shit. His explanation of that choice is all kinds of long and incoherent. ROFL…

Check it out
I call it
Yeah
Yeah

I call it, shit for niggas wit’ daughters
I call this, shit for niggas wit’ daughters
I call this, shit for niggas wit’ daughters
I call this, shit for niggas wit’ daughters

I saw my daughter send a letter to some boy her age
Who locked up, first I regretted it then caught my rage
Like, how could I not protect her from this awful phase?
Never tried to hide who I was, she was taught and raised
Like a princess, but while I’m on stage, I can’t leave her defenseless
Plus she seen me switchin’ women, pops was on some pimp shit
She heard stories of her daddy thuggin’
So if her husband is a gangsta, can’t be mad, I love ‘im
Never, for her I want better, homie in jail, dead that
Wait ‘til he come home, you can see where his head’s at
Niggas got game, they be tryna live
He’s seen ya mama crib, plus I’m sure he know who ya father is
Although you real, plus an honest kid
Don’t think I’m slow, I know you prob’ly had that chronic lit
You 17, I got a problem wit’ it
She look at me like I’m not the cleanest father figure
But she rockin’ wit’ it

This for niggas wit’ daughters
I call this, shit for niggas wit’ daughters
Yo, not sayin’ that our sons are less important

Shit for niggas wit’ daughters
I call this, shit for niggas wit’ daughters
I call it, not sayin’ that our sons are less important

This morning, I got a call, nearly split my wig
A social network said Nas, go and get ya kid
She’s on Twitter, I know she ain’t gon’ post no pic
Of herself underdressed, no inappropriate shit, right?
Her mother cried when she answered
Said she don’t know what got inside this child’s mind, she planted
A box of condoms on the dresser, then she Instagrammed it
At this point, I realized, I ain’t the strictest parent
I’m too loose, I’m too cool wit’ ‘er
Shoulda drove on time to school wit’ ‘er
I thought I dropped enough jewels on her
Took her from private school, so she could get her balance
To public school, they too nurture teen talents
They grow fast, one day she’s your little princess
Next day, she’s talkin’ boy business, what is this?
They say the coolest players and foulest heartbreakers in the world
God gets us back, he makes us have precious little girls

This for niggas wit’ daughters
I call this, shit for niggas wit’ daughters
Yo, not sayin’ that our sons are less important

Shit for niggas wit’ daughters
I call this, shit for niggas wit’ daughters
I call it, not sayin’ that our sons are less important

And I ain’t tryna mess your thing up
But I just wanna see you dream up
I finally understand
It ain’t easy to raise a girl as a single man (Nah)
The way mothers feel for they sons how fathers feel for they daughters
When he date, he straight, chip off his own papa
When she date, we wait behind the door wit’ a sawed-off
‘Cause we think no one is good enough for our daughters
Love…

Real rap.

3 for 3 so far.

Nas - The Don (Trailer)…

On GP, I don’t fuck with trailers for music videos. Where’s the fucking sense in devoting 30 seconds to a minute of my life to watching something that’s maybe 5 minutes long in total that I’ll get to see in its entirety in about a week or two? But there must be some demand for this kind of shit because these fucking trailers keep popping up on blogs everyday.

However, I’m making an exception today because I owe penance to the NasGawd for my slander from the other day. Y’all really didn’t think I was going to slander Nas, then praise French Montana and go about my merry old life as if nothing abnormal happened. ROFL. If you thought that, you thought wrong. Stop thoughting muhfucka.

So on to the trailer (sigh). IRS and Kelis notwithstanding, our boy still has a knack for looking really classy, ratchet, cool and rich all at once in front of cameras, thus continuing his long running streak first established in the classic and most stunt-worthy of videos, 'Hate Me Now' (nigga had WHITE TIGERS in the club b!). Lots of fire too. That's good. Hot summer and all that. Pretty wimminz - always welcome. So far so good.

You know what? Fuck this. This shit wasn’t even worth a proper post. Look at all these wasted verbs and prepositions nshit. Trailers for music videos are inherently stupid - unless they contain NEW MUSIC damn it. The song itself is still awesome though.

I’ll try this penance shit again later. I still owe the Gawd…

New shit for the Voltron spot.

This time I talk a bit about NasGawd - ya know, the sacred gawd around these parts.

Spoiler alert: I was unhappy. Nas really tried to ruin dinner yesterday. SMH.

Nas x Peter Rosenberg - Noisemakers…

One of the more interesting Nas interviews because he’s cursing a lot and slightly intoxicated. He reveals a few new things throughout, but if you’re a stan there’s nothing new. Still worth a watch though…
